Al Capp refused to put any rides into the park when he was in charge. That's what killed it. Kids don't want to fish all day.

Actually Dogpatch closed in the mid 90s, not the 80s. The park was spectacular before it changed hands the final time. The "store" you talk about being the only thing there was actually the ticket office. You had to take the finicular down the hill to get to the park. I suppose you never actually got to the park itself.

No it was not a horrible idea. Considering this place brought many people happy memories it was a very good idea. It also lasted longer than several other smaller amusement parks. Dogpatch was a success for a good amount of time but the ownership changes brought its profits to a standstill because the new owners were older and didn't invest as much as they should have.

Thanks for sharing with us. I went there all the time when we went to stay at my Great Grandmas house in Jasper. It was so much fun as a kid. Last time I drove through there it looked worse than this... sigh.

Im guessing you were born in 67? My wife was too, she also worked there in 83. she ran the wild mouse, the barrel, earthquake magoon and a kiddy train. I think those are all correct names. she was around 16, we had been dating for about a year, she drove a 79 blue trans am. funny how time flies.

Wow, for some reason i had a dream about dogpatch last night, it was weird so i searched about when i got home, i went their when i was about 5 or 6 i think i have drove by it one time since then, i grew up in the fort smith area some of the pics are unbelievable of it now nothing like i remembered, WOW!

worked there the summer of 83 and have fond memories of the place... bought that dirt bike everybody had to look @ when punching the time clock out of the park. Even with a capital injection it will never be the same... what kid today is even going to be familiar with the Dogpatch characters? What about the resort above the park is that operating
